ELAZIG GUNISIGI NEWSPAPER – April 2012

WHERE WORDS END...

Sometimes, when trying to express emotions, desires, beauties, truths, and wrongs, there are no more words left to say. A photograph, a tear, a sweet smile, or a landscape can convey what’s in the heart much better than any words could.
In the past few weeks, I had the opportunity to visit both the old and new neighborhoods of Elazığ in detail. The scenes I witnessed and the photos I took I wanted to share with you in a very summarized and different way.
When I took a heart photograph in the light of what I saw, I found the following verses. I present them to you, without comment, with my respect and greetings…

It’s not enough to say you love, you must love.
It’s not enough to say you know, you must know.
It’s not enough to say you are not afraid, you must not be afraid.
It’s not enough to seem persistent, you must be persistent.
It’s not enough to say it’s time to put your hand under the stone, you must put your hand under the stone.
It’s not enough to say you trust, you must trust.
It’s not enough to say you are fast, you must be fast.
It’s not enough to seem brave, you must be brave.
It’s not enough to say you serve, it must be seen.
It’s not enough to seem sincere, you must be sincere.

It’s not enough to know the oppressor, you must stand tall.
It’s not enough to know the oppressed, you must extend a hand.
It’s not enough to know the thief, you must say stop.
It’s not enough to know the ignorant, you must not let them speak.
It’s not enough to know the friend, you must not lose them.
It’s not enough to know the enemy, you must take precautions.
It’s not enough to know the lazy, you must make them work.
It’s not enough to know the hardworking, you must reward them.
It’s not enough to know the just, you must give them their rights.

It’s not enough to see, you must understand.
It’s not enough to understand, you must interpret.
It’s not enough to interpret, you must apply it in life…!
