1ST ELAZIĞ CITY SYMPOSIUM
Elazığ enthusiasts are constantly striving for the development and promotion of our province in terms of trade, industry, social aspects, and culture. These efforts, often carried out independently, largely fail to achieve their intended goals. For these valuable initiatives to succeed, unity and solidarity stand as the fundamental factors.
We know that our province, districts, towns, and villages have many problems that require solutions. These problems, along with their proposed solutions, have become the main topics of conversation in friendly discussions. What seems difficult to solve for us may have already been solved by others in a different city. The valuable suggestions for Elazığ might not only come from those who live here but also from others who have a strong affection for the city. In today’s age of information and technology, knowledge becomes even more valuable and beneficial when shared.
These knowledge exchanges primarily take place at symposiums and conferences. So, why not organize a symposium where every issue concerning Elazığ is discussed thoroughly? At the 1st Elazığ City Symposium, let everyone share their ideas in writing, and we will compile them into a series of books. In this way, the roadmap for the "Elazığ of Our Hearts" will be determined.
We will not be the first city to organize such an event. Below are some cities that have hosted similar symposiums:

- İzmir City Symposium: January 8-10, 2009
- Van City Symposium: October 1-3, 2009
- Eskişehir City Symposium: February 28-29, 2008
- Denizli City Symposium: May 2-3, 2008
- Samsun City Symposium: November 27-29, 2008
- İstanbul City Symposium: September 13-15, 2007
The City Symposium should cover topics such as urban planning, urban conservation, urban transformation, urban law, transportation, culture and arts, tourism, environment and waste management, renewable energy sources, natural resources, natural disasters and the province’s preparedness for them, agriculture and livestock.
At the City Symposium, anyone with relevant information and documentation will have the opportunity to express their opinions clearly. These ideas, which will shape the future of our province, will be included in the symposium’s books, thus becoming written records. Such symposiums should be held periodically (every 2 years, for example), allowing the goals, deviations, and innovations to be reviewed and shared with the public.
As a result of such an initiative, the tasks to be carried out in our province and the services to be requested from politicians will be listed in the most efficient way. I believe that presenting problems with their solutions to the relevant authorities is the shortest path to finding solutions. While joint projects and initiatives can be undertaken in our country, each region, and even each city, has its own unique characteristics and problems. A city symposium specifically for Elazığ would be a highly beneficial initiative with significant positive outcomes.
The books documenting the entire symposium will serve as a guide for Elazığ’s future endeavors.
